Do or do not.

There is no try."

It’s three hours past midnight, I'm being fueled by caffeine and sheer will.
I've been stuck debugging my project since 2pm.
I rethink the life choices that led me to another night like this.

suddenly... it works

and I'm hooked all over again

If the banner didn't give it away my name is José Ramírez Garza. For some reason I’m fascinated by every facet of web development. From reading documentation, to drawing up wireframes, to structuring tables, I even love those brutal debug sessions that last a lot longer than they should. I graduated from the University of North Texas in May of 2020 where I got a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science, and learned all kinds of ways to sort an array. Since then I’ve been sharpening my skills through various self-led work projects to get better at making nifty things for the web.

On top of being a rockstar programmer I also...

  • Take cute pictures of my cat
  • Take awful pictures my falafel
  • Explore the world a little bit
  • Try my hand at art
  • Destroy my opponents in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

I’ve been a Software Developer at Avatar Systems since August 10th, 2020. In my time there I grew familiar with practically
every element in software/web development. I had experience in:

  • Designing screen layouts
  • Constructing asynchronous data rich UIs
  • Structuring relational databases
  • Populating databases with SQL Stored Procedures for business logic
  • Building a RESTful API with ASP.NET
  • Creating a user permission system for web applications
  • Bridging TWAIN devices with web browsers (a ton of fun btw)
  • Collaborating with several other developers, sometimes in different cities
  • Developing software with agile methodologies
  • Tracking and fixing bugs found through user testing

I feel infinitely more confident in my abilities thanks to the breadth of the things I accomplished at Avatar Systems

Also! I built this site using some sweet Javascript and LESS, along with these wonderful libraries:

  • Splide.js to handle the image carousel
  • Anime.js for all these slick animations

If you'd like, check out the archive at the top right to see my previous site, just to see how far I've come
